Scheduling For A Teen Driving Course

Overview of the Driving Course (the online classroom course is discussed below)

Students do 6 drives.  We normally drive Monday thru Friday after 4:30 and finish before 9:30.  We also drive Saturdays in the mornings and sometimes in the early afternoon.  We do not drive on Sundays.  Accommodations can usually be made if you need help with scheduling.  Drives start at specific locations listed below, but occasionally students can drive themselves home.

Overview of the Online Course

An online classroom course, either Idaho Online Driver Education (IODE) or Driversed.com, is required if you are under 17.  17 and over students can also take an online course to become a safer driver and help pass the DMV written test - but it is not required.  Both online courses take approximately 25 hours to complete and both can be done at the student's convenience.  Whichever course is chosen, students can only receive their permit if the driving portion and online portion are completed.  Although it is encouraged, the driving portion and online portion do not have to be completed at the same time - each can be completed independently.

Common Questions We Receive

What are the basic steps to getting started?

1.  Go to the DMV (more info below)

2.  Look at your schedule and write down the days and times you can do driver training.  (you will need to do this for any driver training school)

3.  Look at our driving days and see if they work with your available days.  It is best to schedule the first drive at least 7 days out to give time for us to meet up and the student to get started on an online course.

4.  Look at the drive lengths and locations below.  If everything still looks great...

5.  Message or text us to confirm the days are available.  Most likely they will be available.  Remember it is best to have Drive #1 be at least 7 days out from this time.  But...we have had parents text us the schedule they want, have a parent meeting the next day, and the first drive the day after - it is possible to schedule drives this quickly.

6.  If available we will schedule a 1 hour parent meeting.  After paying at the meeting or prior using PayPal students can begin the IODE online course. Do not worry about the IODE online class, it can be finished anytime...before the 1st drive or 6 months after the last drive.

Driversed.com vs. IODE - What's the difference?

What is the online course and when can we start it?

UltraSafe only provides the driving portion of the course.  It is required that you take a 30 hour class course.  Permits are earned when both the online and driving portions are completed.  You can choose Driversed.com or Idaho Online Driver Education (IODE).  Please see the link above to determine which online course you wish to take.  We recommend IODE.

You can start Driversed.com any time - but you must go to the DMV first.  To use IODE, you must pay for the course and then we will refer you to Instructor Brian Johns of IODE and he will enroll your student.  IODE only enrolls students who have decided on a driving school.  If you are not sure which school then it might be best to use Driversed.com.  You can finish the online course anytime - the driving portion is not connected with the online portion.  But, students drive much better if they have finished or almost finished an online course closer to their driving times.

When do we go to the DMV?

As soon as possible.  If you are not sure which driving school you will choose, please tell the DMV the school district your student is enrolled in.  Permits can be forwarded so don't worry about where it was sent - just remember where it was sent.  Required Documents for the DMV

When can we pay and how?

After you have confirmed the schedule, you can pay the full amount or an early deposit anytime.  There is no charge for a $100 deposit made by credit or debit card (the remainder can be paid at the parent meeting).  A $100 deposit is used to reserve the spots you want.  The deposit is non-refundable if you decide not to do the agreed upon driving schedule.  Paying with cash or check at the parent meeting is preferred.  You can also use PayPal but their might be a charge varying for $0 to $20 depending on the teen course you choose.

When are the Drives?

The drives days are listed below.  You will choose 6 days.  Unlike many driving schools that simply take your money and then let you figure out the driving schedule later, Ultra Safe wants to make sure that the 6 driving days will definitely work and be as accommodating as possible to your family schedule.  Rescheduled drives are a pain for everybody.

How many drives are there?

6 drives for most students in our basic teen program.  Your teen might be able to do 5 drives instead of 6.  It will depend on their experience driving motorized vehicles with steering wheels.  UTV's (side-by-sides) are getting more and more popular with many young people driving them long before driver training.  Golf carts, riding lawn mowers, and tractors also may qualify your student to do only 5 drives.  The first drive is almost exclusively in a parking lot to get your student accustomed to the car and learn basic vehicle maneuvering.  If you feel this is not necessary than we can skip that drive and do 5 drives total - but, if you choose 5 drives and your student needs an extra drive to pass the driving portion the cost is $40 for the extra drive.  Our Beginners Teen program and Enhanced program will add extra drives for extra safety.

I want to sign my student up for driving in a month or two...how do I do this and what can I start doing now?

You cannot sign up for driving until the schedule has been posted on the website.  However, you can always let us know what time frame you wish to drive and we will contact you when we start posting the schedule for that time.  It is very helpful if you also let us know the days and times you can drive.  Doing this will put you at the head-of-the-line.  Please note: when we contact you it is important to get back to us soon or else we may open the drive times to other students.

You can always go to the DMV as soon as possible.  Please tell the DMV Ultra Safe driving if you feel confident you will choose Ultra Safe.  If your not sure, just tell them your student's school district.  It is easy for a school district to forward a permit to a private driving school.  If you want your student to start and finish the online course before the driving portion, you will need to choose Driversed.com.  Driversed.com requires the permit number so it is important to go to the DMV as soon as possible.  If you want your student to complete the online course within a week or two of the first drive - you will choose IODE.  IODE is cheaper & better but can only be started after you sign up with Ultra Safe.

Tuesday 8th

Please check back for openings for time period: Tuesday October 9th - October 31st.

Confused on how to schedule?  Here is an example.

After looking at your schedule in the time frame of Sept 27th to Oct 8th, you see that your student can drive after school the 1st, 3rd, and 4th; Saturday the 5th your student can drive after noon; and the 7th and 8th after school.  [These will be the 6 days your student will drive - now you need to make sure the drive times and locations are okay].  Okay, you have reviewed the locations of drives and everything looks good, but Drive #5 on the 7th will need to start at 6:30 to give your student time to get home from practice.  [This is not a problem because many of the drives can be adjusted 30 minutes.]  Okay, the next step is to message or text us to see if they are still available.  [You do not need to include the times - just the driving days.]  If available, we will set up a parent meeting.  That's it, you are now scheduled.  [You will pay at the parent meeting]
